Bellefontaine senior Ollie Moreland has accomplished two amazing academic feats this year.

The scholar just scored a perfect 1600 on the SAT.

Earlier this spring, Moreland earned a perfect 36 on the ACT.

The SAT tests high school students’ skills in reading, writing and language, and math.

The ACT assesses high school students’ aptitude in English, reading, math, and science.

Moreland said, “The SAT has more time, but the questions are harder, especially on the reading section. Also it's out of 1600, not 36, so you have less of a margin of error if you want to get a perfect.

“I missed two questions total, one on the reading and one on the math, which is probably about the max you can miss and still get a perfect. I took it twice, and the first time I got a 1530.

"I think the reason I did better this time was that I did a better job of managing my stress. The first time it was my first time doing this kind of test, and I was super stressed to the point where I couldn't sleep the night before. This time I was much calmer, as I knew I could just submit my ACT score if I got a bad score on this one.

"Overall, I'm super happy with how I did, and thankful that my practice paid off. To practice, I did over 1500 practice questions."

Ollie, who has a 4.4 grade point average, wants to study computer science in college.

Moreland has been a part of TEAMS (Tests of engineering aptitude, mathematics, and science), robotics, cross country, and track at BHS.

His parents are Tom and Rachel Moreland.

Bellefontaine City Schools Gifted Coordinator Angie Horvath shared, “WOW is all I can say. I cannot describe how proud I am of Ollie and so very happy for him. To get a perfect on both the ACT and the SAT…..just amazing! He is a terrific young man with determination and is just plain fun to be around. His drive and knowledge inspires me every day. We are so lucky to have Ollie at BHS.”

Less than one percent of high school students nationwide score a 36 on the ACT.

Approximately .07 percent of high school students (7 in 10,000) across the country earn a 1600 on the SAT.

School leaders believe that Moreland is the first student in Logan County history to earn perfect scores on both tests.
