The Bellefontaine High School Marching Band performed in the Memorial Day Parade Monday morning.

Local residents lined Main Street, East Sandusky Avenue, and Hayes Street to watch this year’s parade.

20-plus entrants participated, including several first responders and the Bellefontaine High School Marching Band.

The 92-member BHS Band played “Beautiful America.”

Band director Jeremy Karg said, “I’m very proud of the students who showed up and gave their time after the school year was over, especially the senior class. It shows their dedication to the program and the community. They sounded great and looked great.”

The grand marshal was Harley James.

James served in Vietnam from September 1968 through September 1969.

The U.S. Army specialist was named the Logan County Vietnam Veteran of the Year in April.

Bellefontaine Mayor Ben Stahler and Logan County Veterans Services Officer Shelley Kneece were also in the parade.

Following the parade, a Memorial Day ceremony was held in the Bellefontaine Cemetery.

James, Stahler, and Kneece each spoke.

Stahler and Kneece reflected on the many service members who were killed to defend our freedom.

The master of ceremonies was Robert Walker.

A wreath-laying ceremony, 21-gun salute, and playing of Taps closed out the program.

Taps was performed by BHS band members Skyla Wilgus and Emma Costin.

The parade and ceremony was coordinated by veteran Tim Shaw of Bellefontaine.
