Former Bellefontaine football coach Greg Peitsmeyer has been selected for the Miami Valley Football Coaches Association (MVFCA) Hall of Fame.

There will be two induction ceremonies this spring.

The first ceremony will be during the MVFCA coaches meeting on Thursday, April 21st in Kettering.

Some coaches and family members will attend this ceremony.

The second ceremony will be held on Friday, June 3rd during the Miami Valley North/South All-Star Game. The site is to be determined, but will be in the Dayton area.

Anyone is welcome to attend the game and ceremony.

In January 2015, Coach Peitsmeyer passed away after a battle with cancer.

Peitsmeyer led the Chiefs from 1988 to 2002. In his 15 years, he compiled a record of 106-53, won five league championships, and made six state playoff appearances.

Peitsmeyer was named the Ohio Division II Coach of the Year in 1995 when the Chiefs qualified for their first-ever playoff appearance.

In 1997, BHS went 10-0 for the only time in school history.

The 1999 team advanced to the Final Eight.

Greg retired in 2011 after a long career with Bellefontaine City Schools as a teacher and administrator.

He was inducted into the BHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.

Aaron Peitsmeyer reflected on his dad being chosen for the MVFCA Hall of Fame.

"This induction means so much to my family and me. To be able to recognize his coaching accomplishments at BHS with this induction feels like we are honoring him in the right way.

“It makes it even more special because he was taken from us too soon in our lives by cancer, and it keeps all of the wonderful memories alive. We would give anything for him to be here with us to receive this induction in person, but know that he will be with all of us in spirit.

“We are really grateful to the MVFCA Hall of Fame Committee and all who were involved in this process. I especially want to thank Coach Fantauzzo (coached Greg at Tecumseh), BHS head football coach Jason Brown, and my uncle Mark Brunswick (BHS Baseball) for all they did to help in this process."

Finally, Aaron has many fond memories of his father.

“There are so many memories of my dad. I was fortunate enough to have him as a Little League baseball coach, a high school head football coach, and also a teacher in the classroom. Through all of this we built a special bond, and those are things that I will always cherish.

“One of my favorite memories of having him as my coach in high school was being a part of his 100th win vs. Urbana my senior year. That was an incredible night, one that I will never forget. However, I believe my fondest memory was when I had the opportunity to coach with my dad at Marysville when he served as a volunteer coach with our football team in the 2012 season. That was something that I'll never forget – I feel that everything kind of came full circle. At that point in my life, he was pretty much my best friend. I am a lucky son to be able to experience all of those things in my life.”

Aaron Peitsmeyer graduated from Bellefontaine High School in 2002. He is a teacher and coach at Marysville.
