Bellefontaine High School hosted its first-ever Freshman Celebration of Excellence Thursday afternoon in the BHS Auditorium.

The Class of 2025 was recognized after completing the first semester of Freshman Focus, which is a new class at the high school.

Each freshman student is mentored by a high school teacher to ensure a smooth transition from eighth grade to high school.

Six teachers lead the 40-minute class each day.

The ceremony was hosted by BHS Principal Dr. Pam Noeth.

She commended the students for staying “on course” this semester.

Each freshman sets a weekly goal. It’s usually academic, but there may be personal goals, too.

119 freshmen were recognized for having a 3.0 or higher grade point average.

Students also received Goal-Getter Awards, Chieftain Pride Awards, Most Improved Awards, Most Determined Awards, Most Concerned Awards, and Most Positive Awards.

The Freshman Focus teachers are Stacy Millice, Steve Henry, Jeanie Denkewalter, Carly Federinko, James Howell, and Mark Brunswick.

Jenny Withrow has freshmen in her ACE who received awards.

Freshman Focus will continue for some freshmen next semester.

The freshman class has just over 200 students.
