The Bellefontaine Board of Education learned about two student trips during their monthly meeting Monday night.
Marketing teacher Katie Rychener touted the DECA Sports and Entertainment Marketing Conference set for February 2nd-6th in Orlando, Florida.
Rychener said the trip will cost $1,100 per student. This includes four nights of accommodations, air travel, experience tickets, and marketing tours.
The DECA students will go to an Orlando Magic pro basketball game, Universal Studios, and Disney World.
At least 12 students will attend the conference, which will reinforce concepts taught in the classroom.
Bellefontaine Middle School teacher Jordan Reser detailed the eighth-grade trip to Washington, DC on May 16th-19th.
Reser, who’s the trip coordinator, said the trip will cost $705 per student.
Approximately 150 eighth-graders will go on the trip, which includes a stop in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
The board will vote on both trips at their next meeting.
Student fundraisers would pay for the trips.
Board members approved the baseball trip to Myrtle Beach in March.
20 players and 6 coaches will be on the trip over spring break.
The players will hold fundraisers in the fall and winter.
In personnel, Russ Hogue was hired as the varsity baseball coach.
He succeeds Mark Brunswick, who resigned last spring.
Hogue graduated from Indian Lake in 2011. He played baseball at Lake Erie College in Painesville.
The board recognized September Seniors of the Month Lily Turner and Palmer Neeld.
Turner was named BHS Homecoming Queen earlier this month.
She is involved in several clubs and the music department.
Lily is also a cheerleader and the social media coordinator of NHS.
Turner will study graphic design at a public university next fall.
Her parents are Jeff Turner and the late Katie Turner.
Neeld is very active in music, including Les Fons, symphonic choir, and marching band.
He also plays soccer.
Neeld will major in engineering in college.
His parents are Jon and Darcy Neeld.
The next board meeting will be November 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the Distance Learning Center.
