This is the image for the news article titled BMS - Momentum AwardThe Momentum Award recognizes schools that have received A’s on every value-added measure included on the 2016 Ohio School Report Card. The value added measure takes into account several student populations including gifted, students with disabilities, the lowest 20% of students and all students. Unlike the state achievements measure which captures a students’ performance at a single point in time, value added measures a students’ growth between two points in time. It’s a measure about students’ growth and progress; it is not about passing one test on one given day. 

Bellefontaine Middle School received an A in all fore mentioned areas and as an overall component grade, thus the Momentum Award.  Our report card, in the area of value added, for the 2015-2016 school year indicates that our Middle School students made greater than expected progress in reading and mathematics.

Receiving the award is affirmation that the practices conducted at the middle school and throughout the district are effective.   Having a focus on limited goals, using multiple means of assessments and providing structures promoting teacher collaboration is key.  It is exciting to take such an opportunity to celebrate with teachers and recognize them for their hard work and dedication to students..  As administrators we see this everyday so being recognized reassures our community and stakeholders teachers are providing exceptional educational opportunities to our students. Without the teachers commitment to students’, formative instructional practice, effective analysis of data, high expectations, the belief that the work would make a positive impact on student achievement outcomes, the award would not have been possible.
